Originally the English Sheepdog was a working dog and therefore the
farmer was not taxed for keeping it. To indicate this dogs tax-exempt
status its tail had to be docked. The practice of docking its tail still
exists today. This intelligent and affectionate dog makes an excellent
companion and watchdog.
