The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier was first bred by peasants to drive cattle, hunt vermin and foxes and act as guard dog. These dogs don’t look or behave like most terriers because peasants were not allowed to own hunting dogs and so developed a dog that would not look suspiciously like a hunter. They are sweet tempered, friendly and devoted companions.
